Ms. Susanna Uusmaa is a biomedical scientist with broad expertise in Medical Sciences and in International Business. Holding an MSBS degree, she is result-driven to integrate modern smart technologies into making substantive contributions to the biomedical sector. Having conducted research in neuroscience and oncology and having proudly graduated from Tallinn University of Technology (TALTECH) and Tallinn University School of Natural Sciences and Health, Ms. Uusmaa takes an evidence-based approach to her professional objectives and also to her endeavors as a passionate healthy lifestyle entrepreneuse. With a background in biomolecular and medical sciences, she has recently co-founded Quantum Brain Research Institute with the aim of supporting the development of neuroscientific research for neurocritical treatment applications through instructive programs in mental health assessment and management.

In collaboration with the Luxembourg Institute of Health and Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine, she developed a complete standard operating procedure for differentiating and generating fully functional glial cells from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in only 30 days. Moreover, she holds over 6 years of hard-working experience in business operations and relationship building in more than 5 countries around the globe, having created and nurtured mutually beneficial partnerships, enhanced workflow efficiency, and contributed to the growth of several initiatives with substantial savings. Ms. Uusmaa’s biomedical undertakings have positioned her as an MSBS to be able to become an active contributor also to the longevity sector and put her expertise into helping people become their best version of themselves with properly validated and ethical practices. She considers herself lucky to be born in the beautiful Northern European city of Tallinn in Estonia, a UNESCO World Heritage treasure of the Baltic Sea, where women’s rights are valued and where cutting-edge technologies are implemented in e-governance and healthcare. Dr. Simsek is professor and head at Department of Food Science at Purdue University. She is also a faculty member at Whistler Center for Carbohydrate Research at Food Science Department, Purdue University and, adjunct professor at University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. She completed her PhD degree in Food Science from Purdue University in 2006. She has a BS in Chemistry and MS in Biochemistry. To date, she has advised 10 PhD and 30 MS Degree students, and hosted more 20 visiting scientists from 10 different countries.

Dr. Simsek has authored and co-authored hundreds of research papers, and conference contributions in the area of wheat quality, mycotoxin analysis and carbohydrate chemistry. Dr. Simsek’s research focuses on four major areas: (i) polysaccharide structure and molecular interactions in cereals, (ii) starch chemistry, analysis and digestibility, (iii) application of HPLC, GC-MS, UPLC, LC-QTOF and NMR in structural studies of carbohydrates and polysaccharides, and (iv) improving wheat quality.

Dr. Wishart currently supervises over 40 students, staff and post-doctoral fellows. Since 1990 he has published more than 300 papers and presented over 300 posters/abstracts. He has delivered more than 300 invited lectures all over the world on a variety of topics, including cutting edge bioinformatics tools, drug design, metabolomics, precision medicine, general sequence analysis, gene finding, protein annotation, protein structure analysis, structure prediction, biomedical text mining, cellular simulation, nanobot design and synthetic biology. He is responsible for the creation of metabolomics databases in Edmonton that receive over 20 million hits a year, thus making Edmonton the centre of the world's most influential metabolomics databases. He has developed automated metabolomics profiling software that reduces data processing time by up to 90%. He has also help to pioneer many of the necessary technical, software and database developments to enable metabolomics to enter the scientific mainstream. Dr. Wishart is also the Director of The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC), which is Canada's national metabolomics platform. He has been cited over 40,000 times and is an inventor on several patents.
